Though I'm not doing the A-to-Z Blog Challenge, I thought I'd do a A-to-Z project anyway. So, I'm putting together a list of OSR games, trying to fill in the A-to-Z list. Please suggest games to fill in the blanks. Here's what I have so far:

Unfortunately, many of these letters (like 'D' especially) have several possible games.
For "T" I'd suggest Traveller (Classic)... I'm running a game with the original rules, and you can't get much more old school than original school!
ReplyDeleteI was going for new games in the style of the old school games. Not the old games themselves.
DeleteBear in mind there is a difference between "OSR Game" and "retro-clone".
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to stick only to pure retro-clones, then most of the games need to be removed from that list. If it's just OSR games in general, then why the notation on C&C and not on any other game?
I guess I have a broader definition of retro-clone than perhaps others do. To me, if the game is using mechanics similar to an old game, then it is a retro-clone. S&W is a retro-clone to me, even though they use AAC and single save. ACKS is a retro-clone because its based on another retro-clone (LL). To me, nothing after 2E is retro, therefore the notation about C&C.
DeleteI suppose technically, since I said OSR, anything with the style of the old school, no matter the mechanics, qualifies.
The 2E cutoff is also why I haven't used Pathfinder for 'P'.
DeletePlus, then you'd miss the opportunity to use Pars Fortuna.
DeleteWhile I like Old School games (and try to heartily contribute) I'm not sure "Under The moons of Zoon" actually classifies as one.
ReplyDeleteMostly for the unified mechnics/hero points stuff.
But certainly "The Blue Book of Danger and Dweomers" (http://artikid.altervista.org/?id=Games&detail=Dangers%20and%20dweomers) does.
I really needed a 'U'.
DeleteAn excellent reason :)
ReplyDeleteim guessing you havent read thru dungeon world? neither have I. But, it comes up alot on BGG/rpggeek.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read through it, and I already had 2 Ds.
Deletei downloaded mazes and minotaurs. it really appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteI started going through M&M and really like it. I *want* to run the Tomb of the Bull King. I love the races.
