In Honor and Memory of Professor M.A.R. Barker (1929-2012)
This blog will discuss roleplaying games, but especially Tekumel. Tekumel is a fantasy world, described in Empire of the Petal Throne, as well as novels, such as 'The Man of Gold'.
For more information on Tekumel, see the Official Tekumel website, as well as my Tekumel website on Weird Realm..

Gem from the Treasure Chest
I rarely played D&D in the 70s and 80s. I collected in the late 90s, but D&D was never my strongest interest. I picked some up in other transactions. Until now. Now I'm neck deep in the OSR. So I looked at my collection and found a Moldvay, a full set of Mentzers, and two Holmes. I was really surprised when I looked in the Holmes box.
Yes, a complete boxed set, including rule book, B1, original dice, Dragon ad, and TSR survey. The box even has corners intact. I feel very lucky.

I don't think those are the original dice, they looked more like this: http://media.photobucket.com/image/recent/harami2000/dice_gw.jpg
ReplyDeleteBut the set looks beautiful, and it's hard to find one with that B1 in that good shape. Now play it, it's still a blast! I sadly just had to give up my original in shrink, but I still have a lightly used one. It was my first D&D, and still my favorite.
Oh, I picked up the free B1 from RPGNow.com, so I won't be using this copy.
DeleteYou're right. These are pre-inked numbers of rather older dice, including a d10 and no d8. I looked closer and this is a Fourth+ printing, according to The Acaeum.
ReplyDeleteStill in amazing condition. My Holmes is falling apart from so much use.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the books are basically untouched. Staples a little rusty, but otherwise hardly used.
DeleteVery cool.
